When and How to Hire a Grant Consultant

When and How to Hire a GrantConsultant

This week on #GrantChat we are discussing when and how to hire a grant consultant.  I have served as a grant professional as an employee and as a consultant.  So much has changed since I dipped my toe in the grant consulting pool in 2003 and incorporated J. Miller & Associates, Inc. in 2005.

One of the greatest changes for consultants, grants or otherwise, is technology.  Electronic applications, cloud-based shared files, online conferencing, and the wealth of information that is available online have opened more opportunities for grant consultants and grant seeking organizations. Technology has allowed nonprofits and public-sector agencies to better align their needs with targeted services.  Technology and grant consultants with niche experience give rural organizations opportunities to hire expertise for projects when there is no local expertise.  Technology and growth in grant professional services offer grant seeking organizations the flexibility to have on-demand grant expertise when they need it to address the ebb and flow of grant opportunities for a greater return on investment in funds for grant development. The big question I hear from grant seeking organizations is, “How and when do we hire a grant consultant?’
